The U.S. Commerce Department’s (DOC) National Technical Information Service (NTIS) hosted a public forum today to examine federal data challenges, priorities, and leading practices from the private and public sectors.

A more streamlined design, top level navigation, better access to the information you need to make decisions concerning data, and a responsive design. To go along with our new focus on helping Federal agencies transform data into valuable public services, NTIS is pleased to announce a new look and feel for our website – ntis.gov.

NTIS selected 35 organizations, which include small and large companies, nonprofits and research groups, through a merit-based process as eligible to be joint venture partners (JVPs).

Federal agencies that collect, process and disseminate data have a unique obligation to deliver improved data-based services to the public, catalyze innovative private sector data products and services, and use data in innovative ways to increase efficiency of government operations.  After all, the data was collected in the first place to serve a public good.
