Abstract National shortages in the health workforce coupled with growing demands for health care have prompted action to develop and sustain a health workforce that meets high standards for education, certification, and professional development. To meet these critical needs, the Health Profession Opportunity Grants (HPOG) program provides education and training in the healthcare field to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients and other low-income individuals for occupations in the healthcare field that pay well and are expected to either experience labor shortages or be in high demand.
