Publication Date Apr 2013
Media Count 199p
Personal Author N/A
Abstract This report discusses the findings of the third survey commissioned by the Federal Trade Commission to examine consumer experiences involving fraud. This survey, which was conducted in late 2011 and early 2012, provides insights into the prevalence of certain types of consumer fraud in 2011 and how the incidence of such frauds has changed since the last survey in 2005. It also provides information about the mechanisms through which such transactions occur. Finally, to improve understanding of why certain people are more likely to be victimized by fraudulent offers and to improve consumer education efforts, the survey also explores the relationship between certain consumer characteristics, including demographics, and the likelihood of having been a victim of the surveyed frauds.
