Abstract In 2007, the Florida Department of Transportation (Department) successfully implemented an application to evaluate road systems maintained by local agencies such as counties and cities, or roads systems located in private developments (local roads). Although very similar to the process used for state maintained roads, a separate process and listing has been included in this report for local roads. Local roads account for more than 75% of the state centerline miles and approximately 22% of the daily vehicle miles traveled, but account for nearly 47% of all crashes. The Department has time-tested data to conduct crash analysis for state maintained roads but at this time does not have the same magnitude of quantity and quality of data for local roads. Crash data for either system is consistent in that all crash reports are provided from DHSMV and geographically located by the Departments Safety Office. Local road data such as Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT), number of lanes, facility type, and roadway name have been included in the local road analysis. The Department will continue to update the process for local road data, and will continue to coordinate with local agencies.
