Abstract
|
November is National Diabetes Month. In 2010, nearly 26 million persons in the United States had diabetes, and an estimated 79 million adults had prediabetes. Persons with diabetes can take steps to control the disease and prevent complications, and those with prediabetes can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes through weight loss and physical activity. Diabetes can occur at any age. To address the burden of diabetes among U.S. youths, CDC and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at the National Institutes of Health support the SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth study. The study provides estimates of the incidence and prevalence of diabetes in young persons in the United States.
