Abstract
|
The overall project objective for the Pilot Car Wait Time Studies was to develop an effective method to inform drivers in the queue of a pilot car work zone operation of the expected delay time. The specific objective for Phase 2 of the Pilot Car Wait Time Notification System for Work Zones project was to produce a fully workable and deployable prototype based on the concepts of the system demonstrated in Phase 1. The system sould consist of a pilot car mounted unit that receives position from GPS satellites and relays either the position or display directions via a terrestrial mobile communication system to stationary signs on the approach of the work zone.
