Abstract This report presents the results of an investigation involving finite element simulation of partially grouted concrete masonry walls subjected to blast loading and the development of an engineering design equation to address the potential for breaching between grouted cells. Tests performed by the Air Force Research Laboratory were used to verify finite element modeling approach. Input parameter studies were carried out to understand the mechanisms and causes of the breaching shear in concrete masonry walls. Based upon the mechanism findings, a design shear equation was formulated, and a maximum pressure for partially grouted construction was defined.
