Abstract The author utilized the exercises with undergraduate and graduate students studying computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, physics, and mathematics. The intent of these exercises is to provide enough information to enable students to complete the exercises independently of an instructor. At the time of writing this introduction, with the exception of the Windows operating system, the software applications referenced in the exercises are free to download.
