Documents in the NTIS Technical Reports collection are the results of federally funded research. They are directly submitted to or collected by NTIS from Federal agencies for permanent accessibility to industry, academia and the public.  Before purchasing from NTIS, you may want to check for free access from (1) the issuing organization's website; (2) the U.S. Government Printing Office's Federal Digital System website http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys; (3) the federal government Internet portal USA.gov; or (4) a web search conducted using a commercial search engine such as http://www.google.com.

Limited Access Death Master File Available Through Value-Added Online Products

NTIS, the only authorized official distributor of the Limited Access Death Master File on the Web, in conjunction with Global Internet Management (GIM), offers several value-added Limited Access Death Master File online product options. You no longer have to deny your organization the ability to use the Limited Access Death Master File to verify/validate the death of an individual because of scarce resources. Applications are available to meet your needs, whether your organization only needs 1,000 inquiries a year or needs to search for/match thousands of names and social security numbers. Subscribers may purchase a particular number of queries to the Limited Access Death Master File --1,000 to 1 million queries, but should not purchase more than they feel they will use in one year. Subscribers may upload a list of Social Security numbers to check against the DMF database, and the number of queries in each upload will be deducted from the overall subscription. The subscription will expire when the number of queries selected has been reached or at the end of one year, whichever occurs first. Manual Batch Processing is recommended for companies and government agencies that need to check a large list of numbers occasionally. For example, a company issuing a yearly mailing to its 5,000 customers would want to check its list to make sure it is not sending mailings to customers who have died. The company could purchase 5,000 queries each year to check its list. Manual Batch Processing is not recommended for companies that need to check large lists on a regular basis or who need to check just a few numbers at a time.
