This listing, updated quarterly, lists all (more than 9,000) mammography facilities (except Veteran Administration facilities) certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as meeting quality standards for equipment, personnel and practices under the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992 (MQSA).
The effectiveness of mammography as a cancer detection technique is directly related to the quality of mammography procedures. In response to concerns about the uncertain or insufficient quality of mammography being provided throughout the states, Congress enacted the MQSA. This statute establishes requirements for the accreditation, certification and inspection of facilities and aims to strengthen quality.
Facilities must be certified to lawfully perform mammography and to be reimbursed by Medicare and Medicaid for mammography services. Certified facilities are listed alphabetically by state. The list provides the facility address and phone number.
