1. What is a download?

Downloading is the process of transferring data from one computer to another.  The download format is an electronic version of the original paper copy.  HUD listings are produced in the Portable Document Format (PDF) which is the federal government standard for producing information electronically. PDF files require the freely available Adobe Acrobat Reader software in order to view and print the contents of the file. Although most personal computers today have this software, if you do not we provide a link which you may use to obtain the free software, http://www.adobe.com/downloads/; select 'Get Adobe Reader' from the downloads menu.

 

2. How do I download?

  • After you have successfully entered your order, and clicked on the 'Place Order' button; you will be directed to the final page and Step 4 of 4.
  • A link to download the list will appear directly below Step 4 of 4. 
  • Mouse click on the link: Download Product HUDAL. (The product number for the Alabama HUD list is used for demonstration purposes.)  A File Download box will appear, asking if you want to open or save this file.
  • Click on 'Save'.  A Save As box will appear, you can select which area of your computer you would like to save your list in.
  • Click on the Desktop icon.
  • Then the 'Save' button in the bottom right corner of the screen.   This will make a shortcut icon on your main desktop screen.
  • A new box will appear stating your download is complete.  You can click on the open button to view your list.

 

3. How long does it take to download the list?

Completing the steps above should take on average 3 - 15 minutes depending upon your internet connection.

 

4.  How long will my list be available to download?

You will have 48 hours to download and save your list after your order is placed. Please note where your list is saved to access it at a later time.  The list will be saved on your computer until you choose to delete it.  The password activated link however, is only active for 48 hours.

 

5. What happens if I don't download my list right after I place my order?

You will have 48 hours to complete the steps below:

  • If your email address is entered correctly on your online order, you will receive a confirmation of your order by email. The confirmation will be titled NTIS Order Confirmation Number.

  • Open the message.  Read and scroll down below your ordering information.  You will be asked to click on a link and enter the password that is listed.
  • To ensure your password is entered correctly, copy the password to paste in the appropriate field.  To copy:  highlight your password by clicking and dragging your mouse over the password. Once highlighted it should look like the following example password: (xIpl6V1$3M).  Right click (use the mouse button on the right side) on the password, scroll down to the 'Copy' option and left click on it.
  • Click on the link that is displayed: https://www.ntis.gov/download/returndownload.aspx
  • A new web page showing NTIS-Recently Purchased Files will display.
  • In the Email Address field, enter the email address you entered on your order.
  • Place your curser in the Password field by left clicking your mouse inside the box.
  • Right click your mouse, scroll down to Paste and left click to select it.
  • Your password will appear in the Password field in encrypted format. (••••••••••)
  • Click on the List Files button.  The item name, order number, time ordered, and title of your HUD list will display.
  • Click on the item name: HUDAL*DL.
  • A File Download box will appear, asking if you want to open or save this file.
  • Click on 'Save'.  A 'Save As' box will appear for selecting the folder you would like to save your list in.
  • Click on the Desktop icon.
  • Then click on the 'Save' button in the bottom right corner of the screen.  This will make a shortcut icon on your main desktop screen.
  • A new box will appear stating your download is complete.  You can click on the open button to view your list.
    *Use the arrow buttons or scroll bar on the right side of the screen to turn the pages.

 

6. Do I have to print the list?

No.  You can click on the HUD list icon you created to view your list at any time.  The list can be printed by clicking on the Adobe Reader printer button, located in the tool bar near the top of the screen.

 

7. What's included in the list?

The first 6 pages contain procedures and instructions on being a third party tracer, as well as 'Tracer Found Case' and 'Specific Power of Attorney' forms.  Please read and follow all instructions carefully.

 

8. How many names are on the list?

Each page contains 28 names.  The size of each list depends on the population of each state or region.  The page count can range from 10 to 4,000 pages.
