The United States Government Manual is the official handbook of the Federal Government. The 704-page manual provides comprehensive information on the agencies of the legislative, judicial, and executive branches. It also includes information on quasi-official agencies; international organization in which the United States participates; and boards commissions, and committees. Each agency entry contains:

  • A summary of the agency's purpose and general role
  • A description of its programs and activities
  • Names and titles of major officials
  • A list of sources of information
  • Many entries also provide organization charts

The manual also includes appendices of commonly used abbreviations and acronyms, terminated and transferred agencies, and agencies appearing in the Code of Federal Regulations.
